This life is only a test – it is only a test.
If it had been an actual life, you would have received further instructions on where to go and what to do.
Remember, this life is only a test.
- Jack Kornfield, from “The Path With Heart”
No one knows better than you
Coaching is based on the principle that an individual is resourceful, creative by nature, whole and is ultimately responsible for their lives, their choices and the results they are getting. It means we are the ones with the answers. It also means that whatever it is our heart desires, we need to first and foremost look inside, not out because most of the times we are the ones standing between ourselves and what we want. This is fantastic news, don't you think?
Targeting the right muscle
Getting a life coach is a lot like getting a personal trainer at the gym (actually, life coaching stems from sports coaching) but a whole lot more than that. At the gym, you have a goal and you want to increase your performance. Just like a trainer, a coach will help you set up a program that fits your personality, will cheer and support you all the way, provide an honest feedback and help you keep on track.
When we learn a new exercise to target the specific muscles or when we are about to master a new pose in yoga, in the beginning it takes time and conscious effort on our part to actually get it right, to memorise how it feels when we do it right. With time and practice we get more confident, our body memorises the new routine and we don't need to actually think about the mechanics behind the technique. Finally, one day we become one with the exercise. Likewise the new ways of thinking will stick to your mind as you will be practising them day after day after day. You will experience the joy of emotional freedom in situations where you earlier went on an autopilot program.
Relationship like no other
Working with a coach gives you a unique opportunity to expand your horizons because in your coach you get an extremely solid support system. At times the coach will believe in you more than you might do because they don't have your limiting thoughts or beliefs about you. A coaching relationship is unique in its combination of objective detachment and commitment to your goals on the part of the coach. The coach will help you further your personal transformation by always telling you the truth and encouraging you to face the uncomfortable truths rather than turning away from them. This is why the openness and trust between you and your coach are of great importance for the effective coaching.
When we get into coaching, we want to integrate the insights and the techniques we learn. We will not get stronger simply reading books about resistance training. Knowing something does not mean actually doing it, being it and living it. True knowledge implies manifestation. Coaching helps you to integrate what you might already know on the intellectual level into your day-to-day life. However...
the question is: do you dare to be new?
You are about to start a journey into yourself and to meet the person you truly are, your authentic self that we are often either too afraid or too busy to face. Whatever your initial goals for coaching are, reconnecting with your self and learning the skills of working with your mind as opposed to being controlled by it, will profoundly change your way of relating to yourself and the people around you. The old "poor me" concept will loose its attraction because you will be playing in a totally different league (lifting heavier weights or maybe will decide to try boxing for a change).
Coaching is not...
...therapy, psychoanalysis, psychotherapy or counselling. The coach does not deliver answers or recipes for how you can achieve whatever your heart desires or tells you what you can do to feel better. Remember, you are the one with the answers?
And finally...
See for yourself
The Indian prince that later became famous as the last Buddha encouraged people: "Go see for yourself". Nothing compares to the firsthand experience.
If you want more out of your life and are ready to take the steps towards it by expanding your horizons, coaching might be a powerful tool. Book free initial session for discussing how coaching might be supportive of your dreams and visions and to see if I am the right coach for you. At the very least, you will get clarity about where in your life you are in the moment, where you are heading and what is in your way of achieving those goals. That's pretty good as a warm-up exercise, don't you think?
What you are looking for is who is looking.
