Creative Response

Books and links PDF Print E-mail

This is a list of books and other resources that made a difference in my life by generating insight and providing tools that helped me  deepen its quality. Like all lists this one, too, is a reflection of a single person's taste, at a certain period of time. I intend to update it and add short comments to each of them. A change can only occur if we bring the insights into our everyday lives.

Not all of the books or podcatst mentioned here are directly linked to artistic expression and yet they all are if we consider life to be the ultimate work of art we all are creating on a daily basis, in the bodies that we are given.

Inner Path

Rick Hanson & Richard Mendius, Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom

Their site WiseBrain.Org offers a wide range of free articles and audiofiles on the topic.

Creativty in life and in art

Peter London, No More Secondhand Art: Awakening the Artist Within

This book touched me in many ways and I still use it as a source of inspiration and insight as to what creative response is really about.

John Daido Loori, The Zen of Creativity: Cultivating Your Artistic Life

The founder of Zen Mountain Monastery on the relationship between Zen, creative process and life. Great book that I find myself returning to again and again.

John Daido Loori was also interviewed by the Buddhist Geeks in episode 66 "Zen Mountain Monastery: Zen and the Arts".

In one of my favourate episodes on Buddhist Geeks Episode 67 "Everything Arises in the Mind of the Yogi" artist and meditation teacher Robert Spellman interviews John Daido Loori. Great interview!

Eric Maisel, Coaching the Artist Within

I really enjoyed Eric's podcast Joy of Living Creatively based on his books.
